THE TROCKS

ARE COMING!

By CAROLYN SELLINGER

Parodies and puns. Gallumphs and guffaws. On pointe (and sometimes off!). and en travesti, Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo take to the Ohio Theatre stage in a blaze of dance spoofery, for the final event of Cleveland Modern Dance Association's 1985-86 Concert Series, April 11 and

12.

Witness the exhilarating dancing of prima ballerinas Tamara Boundiyeva, Margaret Lowin-Octeyn and Tatiana Youbetyabootskaya, and

thrill to the bravura performances of danseurs Jacques d'Aniels, Igor TeupIeze and Lavrenti "Biff" Stroganoff, as they romp through some of the best known and loved modern and ballet classics of the century.

"Cleveland audiences will see that nothing is sacred to the Trocks, as the company dances their own informed interpretations of "Les Sylphides, "The Lamentations of Jane Eyre," "Kashmiri Nautch, 1from

"Three Dances of Ruth St. Denis") and "Don Quixote.

Even The Dying Swan," Anna Pavlova's signature piece, gets a distinctive frocks touch when they de-cide the bird should moult to death!

The company will perform three different programs.

Formed in 1974, the allmale Les Ballets Trockadero. de Monta Carlo have moved from clandestine late night Off-Off Broadway performances to international tours and acclaim on five continents. The delicate balance the Trocks maintain between pratfalls and the delicious suspense of serious dancing has left audiences howling across the globe--and keeps them coming back for more.

Tickets for Cleveland Modsentation of Les Ballets ern Dance Association's preTrockadero de Monte Carlo are $20, $18 and $16 for Friday and Saturday 8:30 p.m. evening performances; and $15, $14 and $12 for the Saturday 2:30 p.m. matinee performance.

The biggest news in the local film scene is the_approaching showing of Before Stonewall, a highly praised documentary about pre-liberation lesbian and gay life. It will be shown April 26 during the Fifth Annual AllOhio Lesbian/Gay/Feminist Conference.

Not only that. Before Stonewall will be shown again on Sunday, April 27, at 7:30 and 9:15 p.m. in Strosacker Auditorium on the CWRU campus. Admission is $3.50; $2 for students and seniors with I.D.s.

The Tenth Cleveland International Film Festival also includes some gay-oriented films.

Saturday April 5, the Festival is showing Desert Hearts, a lesbian love story. Director Donna Deitch explained, "No one had made a film about a love relationship between women that didn't end in suicide or in a bisexual triangle. There hadn't been just a love story, like any love story between a man and woman, handled in a fairly frank and real way. This film fills an important gap. It plays at 7:30 p.m., April 5, Cedar-Lee Theatre.

April 15 and 16 Lina Wertmuller's Sotto, Sotto explores, for the first time in her career, a love story involving two women. The story itself is described as "funny, beautiful, and anomalous. It plays 7 p.m. 15th, 9:15 pm the 16th, at

the Cedar Lee.

The short films presented on April 9 include Cerebral abral Accident, described as surreal, psychological portrait of a young gay man who, in the course of watching over his terminally ill father intermingles memories, fantasy and reality to expose the viewer to the inner workings of his troubled mind. This sounds ominous, but you can try it. This one is at Strosacker the program starting at 7 p.m.

The festival also includes a film, Kerouac, described as combining documentary footage with dramatic recreations of Kerouac's frenzied life." We don't know whether it includes Kerouac's homosexuality; the special "gay" mailing doesn't mention this

one.
